CompactPCI Serial

CompactPCI is embarking upon a new era with the new CompactPCI Serial technology. CompactPCI Serial (PICMG CPCI-S.0) supports high-speed serial data transmission of up to 12 GB/s. This means excellent computing power in your applications and incredible precision for automated work processes.

CompactPCI Serial provides you with new ways to work effectively with your specific application. What's more, it allows you to do so with the very first system that you integrate into your existing processes. The tried and tested IEEE 1101.1 mechanical standard from the PICMG 2.0 CompactPCI specification was expanded to include the USB2, USB3, SATA, PCI Express and Ethernet protocols. This wide range of options enables you to run high-speed processes.

MicroTCA

Elma offers a comprehensive range of MicroTCA backplanes and chassis, which are compliant to the latest MicroTCA specifications such as MicroTCA.0, MIcroTCA.3 and MicroTCA.4

OpenVPX / VPX

Elma is the leader in VPX (VITA 46) and OpenVPX (VITA 65) products. Our experts developed the industry's first VPX backplane and proposed the first VME pinouts to the VITA 46 subcommittee. Since then, Elma has developed various VPX and OpenVPX configurations with and without VME64x legacy slots. VPX presents design challenges with higher layer-count backplanes and more demanding power and cooling requirements. We tackle these problems with signal integrity analysis, thermal simulation and testing.

OpenVPX has opened up new definitions for VPX backplanes and systems. This includes defined module, slot and backplane profiles as well as high speed fabric options, control planes and secondary expansion fabrics. Elma offers a comprehensive portfolio of OpenVPX backplanes and chassis, designed to meet almost any application you need. OpenVPX defines an easier way to ensure the Interoperability between the VPX Modules from different vendors, but also the compatibility between certain Slot configurations with similar VPX Modules.

VME64x

The VME bus specification (ANSI/VITA 1-1994) is designed for 19-inch rack technology and supports bus lengths of up to 21 slots. In such a system, the first slot (the arbiter) is placed on the left side of the rack, with the rest of the bus extending to the right side. The daughter boards are connected to the backplane with 96-pin connectors to DIN 41612. Three configurations of the VMEbus are available for different applications: J1 plane (3U), J2 plane (3U) and J1-J2 monolithic (6U) which combines the J1 and J2 planes of the VME bus.

The VME bus has its own characteristics compared to other parallel bus technologies: terminations on both ends of the signal lines (to avoid the reflections) and daisy chain.

The VME64x bus specification (ANSI/VITA 1.1-1997) is an extension of the VME64 standard ANSIVITA 1-1994. It defines a set of features that can be added to the VME and VME64 boards, backplanes and subracks. The major new features include expanded 160-pin P1/J1 and P2/J2 connectors, an optional 95-pin (2-mm hard metric P0/J0 connector) for more user-defined I/O, +3.3 V and auxiliary power voltage, plus more +5V power. The VME64x system is downward-compatible, so that assemblies with 96-pin connectors to DIN 41612 can still be used.

VME Classic

The VME bus specification (ANSI/VITA 1-1994) is designed for 19-inch rack technology and supports bus lengths of up to 21 slots. VXS

The VXS technology (VITA 41.x - VMEbus Switched Serial) represents an extension of the VME family. The VXS Switched Serial standard enhances the reliable VME technology. Fully reverse compatible to VME/VME64x, VXS utilizes a new 6.4 Gbps high-speed connector across the P0/J0 section of a VME64x backplane. The new connector allows the use of switched fabric signals for higher bandwidth and reliability.

On this serial architecture the conventional VME64X arbiter for the parallel VME Bus remains in the first slot. For serial communication VXS defines new slot types: switch (maximum 2) and payload (maximum 18). With the corresponding Elma Hi-Speed backplanes different topologies can be implemented: Single Star, Dual Star or Switchless-Mesh. The different protocols such as Infiniband (VITA 41.1) or Serial RapidIO (VITA 41.2) are supported by the protocol-agnostic Elma Hi-Speed backplanes. The VXS specification defines four differential serial pairs per direction link over P0/J0 (x4) and supports up to two such ports on each VXS payload card.

Elma offers a wide range of VXS backplanes based on different interconnection topologies such as Star, Dual-Star and Switchless-Mesh.

AdvancedTCA

Elma offers a comprehensive range of AdvancedTCA backplanes - Mesh, Dual Star (5U), and 7U Pluggable Dual Star. Versions for both 19" rackmount and 23" ETSI racks are available. All Elma ATCA backplanes are compliant to the PICMG 3.0 Rev. 1.0 specifications
